Everybody’s packing for vacation from the city life,
takin’ only what is necessary—and that’s very sound advice.
Last trip, we took too much—it’s not gonna happen twice!
Only the essentials! This time we’re—

Travelin’ light! Travelin’ light! Travelin’ right! We’re travelin’ light!

Here’s all the beach umbrellas, and the blankets too.
We got every kind of food here in a cooler for the barbeque.
Horseshoes, bathing suits, wet suits, hiking boots,
bumbershoots, parachutes, Hula Hoops!

Travelin’ light! Travelin’ light! Travelin’ right! We’re travelin’ light!

We got the tent stakes, cupcakes, corn flakes,
Goodness’ sake—don’t forget the duct tape!
Dinner plates, paperweights, and the latest, up-to-date map of the interstate!
Fish bait, roller skates—key to the zoo gate! ...Light!

To show our didication to the highest goal —
And by the application of great self-control —
And so that no one ever says, “We told you so!”
And just because it’s getting too tight, we’re—

Travelin’ light! Travelin’ light! Travelin’ right! We’re travelin’ light!

We got a trailer for the trailer, with the bikes on top!
We’ve got sleeping bags and matresses, all piled higher with a tarp!
Boom box, flip-flops, cuckoo clock! What a shock—
No more room for us! Now we really have to stop!

That’s right! Travelin’ light! Travelin’ right! We’re travelin’ light!
